Beginning as a sketcher she later rose to prominence as a designer of women's sportswear and apparel, establishing Anne Klein and Co. in 1968. After her death in 1975 from breast cancer the line was continued by Donna Karan as head designer until 1989, when she left to focus on her own highly successful DKNY line. Anne Klein and Co is currently owned by Jones Apparel Group.
