At this year's Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie watch fair in January, Girard-Perregaux launched its novelties in an interesting manner, as the brand attempted to organise all of them under a unified theme, which it called "Earth to Sky" The theme manifested itself most strongly in its impressively technical Cosmos watch, which features three complications: a sky chart indicator, a world time indicator and a tourbillon-but that's a story for another time, when we can explore the Cosmos' complications in greater depth All three watches have black cases with dark blue dial elements, supposedly recalling both the darkness of space as well as our blue home planet.
The combined elements mean the watch is almost perfectly symmetrical In the Neo Bridges "Earth to Sky" Edition, most of the dial elements including the bridges are coated in black PVD, except for the hour indices, barrel and micro‑rotor, which are rendered in blue First released in 2017, the Laureato Skeleton was a demonstration of Girard-Perregaux's mastery over its metier-it is after all no mean feat to create a skeleton watch with such movement depth and clarity.
All of the corners and surfaces on the GP01800-1041 calibre are hand-polished and finished expertly by the watchmaker's in‑house craftsmen before its skeletonised mainplate and other select parts are given a blue galvanic treatment, contrasting against the other components in the watch that are left in their natural colour. .
