Meet the Venice Beach Jewelry Designer Who Works Side-by-Side With Her Dad

Every day, designer Sophie Monet gets up and goes to work inside a studio that her father built with his own two hands He sits in the woodshop downstairs, while Monet crafts her eponymous jewelry line in the loft just above Her sister is also upstairs, focusing on her own business at the moment.

Monet’s line of modernist accessories is directly inspired by her father John Okulick’s art, which includes large abstract wood and metal sculptures Based in Venice Beach, he started making art from a very young age, later building furniture and handcrafting his own surfboards Monet grew up watching her dad closely, studying his every move and eventually serving as his apprentice.
