Dolce & Gabbana's Alta Gioielleria collection took holiday jewellery to new extremes

The snakes that entwine themselves around a model's neck were crafted from diamond-dusted 18ct gold, one of them clasping an amethyst in its jaws; the strawberries that hang tantalisingly from necklaces and earrings are dotted with rubies and pink sapphires, the fruits themselves, along with their branches and leaves, the result of painstaking enamelling by Dolce & Gabbana's expert in-house craftspeople Laden with flowers, fruits and folkloric symbols, the collection is dedicated to the bel paese, or 'beautiful country', the Italian brand's homeland This year's digital presentation, while far from the multi-day glamour-fest to which Alta Moda clients are accustomed, did at least offer a close-up look at the jewels, which even at this volume aren't always easy to appreciate in a traditional catwalk show.
