Omega Unveils The Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch 'Master Chronometer'

The Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch has received arguably the most dramatic update since the 1960s with the addition of the Caliber 3861 Master Chronometer movement The new movement for the 42mm watch replaces the caliber 1861, the workhorse movement that had powered the iconic watch since the 1990s If you count the caliber's original iteration as the 861 the same movement has been has been used the 1960s.

Both movements were based on the original caliber 321 introduced with the first Speedmaster in 1957 The Caliber 3861 movement with its co-axial escapement and silicon balance spring appears to bring the technical precision and chronometric performance of the iconic timepiece up to Omega's highest standards This is highlighted further with the handwound movement's certification as a Master Chronometer by METAS, the Swiss Institute of Metrology, authenticating its resistance to magnetic fields reaching 15,000 gauss.
