18 November 2008, ITALY: famous for culinary delights, high fashion, architectural mishaps and fine jewellery. It was a huge honour, then, that Missoma designer Marisa Hordern was awarded the prize for the Best Young UK Jewellery Designer at the inaugural Italian Jewellery Awards, which were held this weekend in one of Italy's most picturesque locations - the glittering Amalfi coast.

The Chelsea-based designer's recognisable collection - which uses deliciously-coloured precious and semi-precious stones in 18-carat gold vermeil, contemporary designs - beat off stiff competition in the form of Sarah Ho, Anthony Roussel, Ornella Iannuzzi and Zinzi Coetzee.

"It was such an honour to be recognised for our designs," said Marisa in Amalfi. "Especially as the Italian jewellery industry is always seen as the leader in innovative jewellery design and master craftsmanship."
