An engagement ring is more than just a piece of jewelry. Men's usage of engagement rings is relatively recent. Beginning in World War II, young soldiers at war used engagement rings as reminders of their loved ones back home. Usually, the man's engagement ring doesn't include many gemstones, and is generally pretty simple. A simple gold or silver band is common.
